Reasons To Take a Road Trip…
Paul’s post over at Shadow of Diogenes got me thinking about a roadtrip and what my top 3 reasons for taking one might be. So I decided to share the results with you. If you have other reasons for wanting to take a roadtrip, would love to hear them.
- To get away from everything.
- To get away from everybody.
- To get away from everything and everybody.
That seems to cover it abundantly adequately.

My direction would be west and northerly, and I’d be headed for a place with less and less people. I’d take a road trip to get away from everything I’d learned to stop looking at just because it had all become too familiar to me and go to where I looked at everything again just because I had never seen it before. And my second reason for taking a road trip would be to spend uninterrupted days with one good friend where we talked or didn’t but where nobody or nothing could break in on the silence except one of us.
Pretty well sums it up for me, too!
The thing about road trips is…you bring yourself with you….lol
To get away! FURTHER !
1) The journey seems always more fun than the destination.
2) I actually enjoy the driving experience. Long straight roads with no cops, twisty mountain bits through rainforest, long sweeping curves along coastlines under power. The wind in my hair, the sun and all cares behind me.
3)For solo trips, it’s just you a car and a road. Very zen in some respects.
That’s pretty much my motivation, though not necessarily in that order.
Funny you should mention this. I leave tomorrow for several days in OR including 2-3 on the Coast, yay. Still chilly, but we’ll be looking for beach agates and just ‘getting away’. It will involve some combination of I-5 and scenic routes. Then, of course, one gets to come home again. (I may end up living down there later on, but that’s another story.) Driving trips are great.
To get away from the news….
my father used to say that the grass is greener on the other hill, because you are seeing it in a different light.
