Big SOB Bro…
Saw this over at Johnno’s place and decided to give it a shot. Interestingly, I took the little quiz twice (different questions each time) and answered honestly both times. First time I came out Les Miserables, second time, the mis-labeled 1984. Orwell should have called it 2006. I don’t understand the connection between Les Mis and 1984…
Since I’ve always had a self-identity fantasy of being an Orwellian rebel, part of a small, select band of dissenters fighting against the draconian tyranny of the forces of dark and evil, I’ll go with…

You’re 1984!
by George Orwell
You have this uncanny feeling that you’re always being watched. Thus life has become a bit of a show as you try to portray yourself as much more reputable than you actually are. All around you, people seem to accept an unending stream of lies and propaganda without flinching. Your only hope may be a star-crossed love affair, but pain seems stonger than love. If you have any older brothers, be very wary of them.

I took that test three times. First two I answered the way I feel and got a book and meaning that didn’t seem to fit me; so I changed the first answer and then the questions were different– which led to another book that didn’t seem to fit me! Guess I need to ask someone who knows me if it’s the test off or my perception of me *s*
I’m not sure how I feel about my answer…
“You’re Love in the Time of Cholera!
by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
Like Odysseus in a work of Homer, you demonstrate undying loyalty by sleeping with as many people as you possibly can. But in your heart you never give consent! This creates a strange quandary of what love really means to you. On the one hand, you’ve loved the same person your whole life, but on the other, your actions barely speak to this fact. Whatever you do, stick to bottled water. The other stuff could get you killed.”
Hm.
I am a Hobbit!
All you wanted was a nice cup of tea when some haggard crazy old man came into your life and told you it was time to do something with yourself. Now you’re all conflicted about whether to stick with your stay-at-home lifestyle or follow this crazy person into the wild. While you’re very short and a little furry, you seem to be surrounded by an even greater quantity of short folks lately. Try not to lose your ring, but keep its value in perspective!
Thanks Cliff, this was fun. I think I will use the What Book are You someday as a post.
the second time I took it, I got Love in the Time of Cholera …. and might as well admit the first time it was–
“You’re Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse
You simply don’t know what to believe, but you’re willing to try anything once. Western values, Eastern values, hedonism and minimalism, you’ve spent
some time in every camp. But you still don’t have any idea what camp you belong in. This makes you an individualist of the highest order, but also really lonely. It’s time to chill out under a tree. And realize that at least you believe in ferries.” I am assuming that means fairies and i am still trying to decide
I always get a big kick when my little blog gets a mention amongst a small circle of fellow bloggers. Thanks.
And as O’Brien spoke to Winston! Sounds like the Straussian schooled mob in your Whitehouse at the moment.
‘Now I will tell you the answer to my question. It is this. The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others; we are interested solely in power. Not wealth or luxury or long life or happiness: only power, pure power. What pure power means you will understand presently. We are different from all the oligarchies of the past, in that we know what we are doing. All the others, even those who resembled ourselves, were cowards and hypocrites. The German Nazis and the Russian Communists came very close to us in their methods, but they never had the courage to recognize their own motives. They pretended, perhaps they even believed, that they had seized power unwillingly and for a limited time, and that just round the corner there lay a paradise where human beings would be free and equal. We are not like that. We know that no one ever seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it. Power is not a means, it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power. Now do you begin to understand me?’
