SouthEastern Conference Rulz…
.
It was not my Tennessee Vols. It was a one-sided blowout and exposure of a very mediocre Ohio State team. But it feels good to have the BCS National Championship back in the SEC again. This was not one of those on any given Saturday games that demonstrate how parity has evolved in NCAA Division I football. This was an old-fashioned spanking of a wannabe group of pretenders by a far superior team of semi-professionals from an SEC school.

Wattizzit? The number of rigged voting machines? Or what are we looking at?
I never understood all that talk approaching metaphysical certainty about OSU’s undoubted dominance this year. They beat my beloved Longhorns, yes, but the game really was closer than the score would indicate; OSU played a soft schedule; the Big Ten itself was soft this year; etc. Meanwhile, though a lot of those SEC games I saw were just sloppy football, the better teams in the conference really were/are among the very best in the nation. No question.
I pulled for Florida; I thought it’s be a good, close game; I figured Florida had a good chance to win. But Florida made it look astoundingly easy. Boise State impressed me; in the case of last night’s game, though, I was too shocked to be impressed, if that makes sense.
Stu, this is college football. You might call it university futbol or something else. American rules. Like the NFL Europe game you saw last year, only these are the collegiate players that hope to become the NFL professional players making millions of dollars and getting all the babes. This was the annual national championship game.
Well, I hate Florida almost as much as Georgia, but you’re right - a good ol’ SEC school spanked OSU but good. Just wish it coulda been Bama. Or at the very least, the Vols.
… amen, Sir…. amen….
Well, as a graduate of UF Law, I was pulling for the Gaydras, but all the TV blather convinced me they were playing for “R” and not “W.” Oh, me of little faith. I noted all the excuses the pundits made for poor ol’ OSU. 50 day layoff, blah, blah. Their good receiver who went down was due to their own stupid touchdown celebration–besides, in the pre-game hype the blatherers went on and on about all the targets Mr. Heisman had available–after whozit got injured, I never heard that anymore, just how OSU would certainly have won with him. Hah! They got thumped by a better team, story ends.
I’ve noticed over the years that sportscasters (especially those from the jockocracy) tend to talk up, puff, favor, the “traditional” football powers. These guys are more conservative than Barry Goldwater (some of them probably still buy stock in buggy whips). They hate “upstarts.” In fairness, I think much of it is sub-liminal (unconscious). Wake up boys, the world changes.
Semi-pro players sez you? That would be one way of looking at our distorted intercollegiate athletic system.
