Checking Out Checking Out …

An absolutely must see movie: Checking Out, starring  Peter Falk, who books what has to be an Academy Award  worthy performance. Also very strong supporting roles by Laura San Giacomo, David Paymer, and Judge Reinhold. This is an intelligent film with a story built on a premise that makes you go hmmmm… Funny, entertaining, provocative and fast moving, this is one film you don’t want to miss…

I was unaware of it until picking the DVD off the shelf at my neighborhood rental store. What a lucky find! Look for it soon…

I just finished watching that comedy a short time ago, and wrote about it in a piece about another special one (not a comedy,) “The River” which I came across as you describe — a lucky find too. I loved the whole concept of the “Checking Out” plot. I just knew it had to be funny, but think my mood for some reason prevented my desired and expected reaction from full expression. I knew it had to be me and my mood, which I also observed, ’cause I like a lot of Peter Falk’s work. Hope you sent in your review to add it to the movie list at “Time Goes By.”

Hmmm, this actually does look interesting Winston…thanks for the suggestion. I haven’t seen Peter Falk in anything in years…but, I like him.

So there I was, ignoring the axiom “Success as a writer is 20% talent and 80% staying off the goddamned Internet” when I came across your positive review of “Checking Out.” It was nice to read it and know that in some places people are discovering the sweet little flick. I think the first draft of the screenplay was funnier because it was a bit darker and Falk’s character was way more cynical but hell, what do I know? I just wrote the thing.
Thanks again…and now, back to that deadline.
