Hopes, Dreams, and Rocket Fuel…
If you have seen The Astronaut Farmer, you know what I mean. If you have not seen it, get on over to your local video store or shag it on your cable/satellite on-demand channel. This is one of the best performances by Billy Bob Thornton I have ever seen, in a very different kind of role for him. Virginia Madsen turns in a credible performance as the supportive wife of Billy Bob’s character. A wonderful cast of supporting actors and actresses finishes this into one big heart-warming story. While the storyline is highly implausible, the message it delivers is very real, and one we need a lot more of these days…

Sounds good! I’ll try to get it, Most of what I’m seeing advertised isn’t worthy of my time and that isn’t sayin’ much because I’ve more time than money! Sigh.
It’s in my Netflix queue Winston. I’ve actually been looking forward to seeing this one. Thanks.
I happened to be heading east out of Las Vegas, New Mexico, one day a couple of years ago and was stopped at a roadblock in the middle of nowhere. It seems the filming of The Astronaut Farmer took precedence over my travels so I waited and visited with the local constabulary who were manning the roadblock. They said it was boring but they were fed well. There was a small tent city just over the hill where they prepared filet mignon and lobster for the actors and crew and shared with the local cops manning the roadblock. After about 30 minutes the film crew and trucks, etc. turned off the highway into the ranch that had been commandeered for the filming and I was free to go.
At your recommendation, I rented it, watched it, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I had my doubts, not being a Billy Bob fan. But you were right. Heart-warming with a message. Thanks, Winston.
