The Center for Artificial Indifference

Random Observations No. 12…

  • If global warming is a myth, then why hasn’t it snowed enough to talk about in years, and why are the summers so much hotter and drier here than in years past?
  • You really begin to suspect drought when the weeds start dying.
  • Convicted criminals, trashy thugs like Michael Vick, should never again be allowed the opportunity to play professional sports and make more millions. Sorry, no compassion here for any scumbag that willingly kills dogs.
  • Further to the above point, those who argue that killing dogs for the hell of it is no different than hunting and killing a deer obviously have never thought it through, and probably do not have the mental capacity to do so.

Hunting Deer and Killing dogs are two different things. It is sad that hunting has to be brought into this.

I run the risk of being thought a terrible person, but I’m gonna speak up anyway. I think the crimes laid at Mr. Vick’s door should rise to nothing more than misdemeanors, and (at least on first offence) result in penalties no greater than fines and/or community service. I’m not advocating cruelty to animals of any kind, or dog fighting, or anything of the kind. I would like it if the fines available to judges as part of the punishment arsenal could be tailored to the wealth of the perp so as to be real deterrents (like maybe fining Mr. Vick $500,000 or so). Of course, in our system, sometimes mega-billion dollar corporations found guilty of criminal activity are handed fines smaller than the money they spend for company picnics.

Justice should be given to Michael Vick-no more and no less. As for global warming there seems to be no consensus about it. I am no hunter. I prefer fishing.

Global climate change is a fact but whether it is going to go on as it is, what caused it, that can be debated. And on Vick, I am not a football fan nor certainly not a fan of any form of animal fighting, but think it has been an over-reaction in his case. There are a lot of athletes who have done worse and been overlooked. Something about dogs touches people more than even beating or killing a wife… hmmmmmmm

As for global warming, I am still open-minded about its cause(s), and have no idea if it is going to continue into the future, destroy civilization as we know it, or improve my property values by putting me on the seashore. I know a variety of folks whose views get distributed on the media have things to say about it, but I have no basis on which to accept their views or take sides.

… first, just let me start off by saying that what Mr. Vick did was sadistic and cruel and he deserves to be punished….. however, having been brought up on a farm in eastern Tennessee, I have killed quite a few dogs myself…. dogs that were dangerous and would have killed me if I hadnt had a rifle……

… we have a problem around here with feral dogs that become pack-living animals….. and I have seen everything from beagles to german shepards take down heiffers bearing their first calf….

…. dogs are just animals, brother… just like us…. and sometimes, well, they need killing…..

… not that this has much to do with Michael Vick, but I’m just saying….

…. what he did was torture and that is wrong….. but life and death and property make for a whole different set of rules….

I’ve heard quite a few folks confuse what Vick did with hunting. I’m no hunter. I don’t like the idea of Bambi taking a slug. But I do understand the difference between hunting and what Vick and his cronies did. And I agree, he does not ever deserve to wear a team uniform again.

Is this the footballer involved in dog-fighting? Yes a TV program on Thursday night, highlighted a GAA (Irish Football Assoc) player involved in dog-fighting.

OK here’s my tuppenceworth. Cruelty of any kind to any living thing, is I feel just that one step away from committing the same acts on humans. And I believe that not only should the perp be punished as a criminal, that they should also receive mandatory therapy. Don’t wait until they decide to move on to humans before we take action.

The sad part about Vick and Cavlin (the Irish footballer) is that they are I’m sure both role-models for young men, and look at the example they are giving. Is it any wonder that we increasingly see angry and violent young people.
