You Mean Bush Lied? Duh…
“On March 17, 2003 President Bush issued the warning: “Saddam Hussein and his sons must leave Iraq within 48 hours. Their refusal to do so will result in military conflict commenced at a time of our choosing,” yet now thanks to a transcript leaked to the Spanish newspaper El Pais, we learn that more than three weeks prior to that Bush had told former Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar that “The Egyptians are speaking to Saddam Hussein. It seems he’s indicated he would be prepared to go into exile if he’s allowed to take $1 billion.” When confronted about the leaked transcript yesterday, Whitehouse spokeswoman Dana Perino did not dispute its accuracy.”
“Just last week we learned from former Fed Chair Alan Greenspan that the real reason behind the war in Iraq was oil , and now we are finding out that the entire war could have been averted for letting him get away with $1 billion. That’s just than one tenth of 1% of what this insane invasion and occupation of Iraq, that continues claim the lives of our country’s bravest men and women, has now been forecast to cost. Think about that just for a second. Every single death, Iraqi and American coalition alike, could have been saved and Bush could have had Saddam’s oil, but apparently he didn’t even seriously consider it. Topping that, he then lied in public to the entire world about it just so he could have his war regardless. How’s that for compassionate conservatism?”
Those two paragraphs from Crooks and Liars. They also have a video and some interesting supporting information. It is amazing that Greenspan is acknowledging now what so many of us have known for years — that Iraq was all about oil from the get-go. Even humble ol’ Winston said it here in June, 2005, within a month after starting this blog.
The United States would be in serious trouble if we just had an incompetent fool for a President. Fortunately, that is not the case. We would also find ourselves in deep distress if our President was simply greedy and evil. That is also not the situation here. And just think of the horrible morass we would find ourselves in if we had a do-nothing Congress that had apparently sold out to the dark side for their own greedy, selfish purposes. What we have is an unfortunate convergence of all the above.
We find ourselves stuck with a President who is an incompetent fool driven by greed and evil, and allowed to run amok by a Congress frozen into inaction by their own selfish objectives. The rest of the world nervously watches with horror as the United States of America, the former global power, leader, and champion of progress and values and peace, is destroyed from within.

Boy you sure nailed that one. I had also seen that about his statements ahead of the war. It is sickening. I don’t know how he lives with himself. The article I saw said never elect another president who thinks that he only has to have confidence in himself– other knowledge is not needed. Stunning way to think and more amazing to me is that there are those in this country (most especially in Congress) who still support him. It’s beyond me to comprehend it and would not have believed it possible at one time.
Right! And he’s been hiding behind a stance of “moral democracy” — his way if saying “my way or the highway. What I really can’t believe is that there are still so many people supporting him! God help us all!!!!!
Oh my dear Winston..you speak with straight tongue…
but all of this is what I (and you) have ben saying for the past 7 years…this is where if it wasn’t so terrifying and embarrasing…we could go nana nana..we were right all along..but who wants to be right about something so hurtful to our once great nation?>..
Yes. Well done.
So here’s where I’m at.
I’m tired of all the talking. Nobody is gonna do anything but everybody has a solution. People understand the problems, but they still continue their ridiculous habitual lives of excess, driving 10 mpg Yukons and spending money they don’t have only because everyone else does and we, as Americans, have to keep up appearances.
See? Most folks are retards. One out of every three you pass on the street? Retard.
So I’m all about me and mine. Put away my soap box years ago. Gonna live like there is no tomorrow till there is no tomorrow. No need preaching to anyone. The numbnuts actually think their government is gonna do something positive or, for an even bigger laugh, that their votes actually count. HAA!
Don’t make a damn who is occupying the offices either, be they democrat, republican, or otherwise. They are all a bunch of self serving, grandstanding, scumbags who are more enthralled with the sounds of their own voices than accomplishing anything meaningful.
So get outta my way. I’m eating asbestos, cleaning with tin based biocides, and killing weeds with diesel fuel. I’ll be dead in 20 years (or sooner) so let someone else worry about this global mess that has no chance of abating. As if there is a grand cure for the climate problem. Yea, and monkeys just flew outta my asshole……
Slash and burn, baby. Just follow the the column of acrid black smoke to find me. I’ll be the one with the oil well and the fleet of Caddys belted to generate power in the front yard. Slash and fucking burn.
Never mind Bush and his cronies, I’m off to have a go at my second cousin, who when two years ago I said, “this is all about oil”, got really narky and spoke down to me as if I was a minature moron with absolutely no understanding, nor could I possibly ever obtain any, of the world of micro real-politik. Up yours cuz, they’re telling the truth now, for a change, and Alan Greenspam agress with me, Yee ha.
Our best hope is that Bush et al will take a Thanksgiving Holiday in Texas with the entire administration; that the American people will rise up, cut Texas off, and demand that it secedes from the Union. Any hope you guys…. well this little ole Irish Woman can dream, can’t she?
I hadn’t heard about that: that is well scary. The really depressing thing is that it isn’t really a surprise, because no-one expects politicians to be honest these days. I just assume they’re saying whatever will sound best. Black days.
“… our once great nation… “, hmmm. As I read the history, the USA has been screwing and killing ten for every one it saves, for many decades and administrations before this. The problem for most Yanks, we can’t see past our childhood indoctrination, that the rich people are who have been doing this for ever. It IS CLASS WARFARE! It is not Bush and Cheney, they are just a symptom of the same ol’ same ol’. We will stay forever blind, fed on television (somewhere around four hours a day on average). You think I am crazy and don’t believe it. Same ol’ same ol’. You have kindly forgotten how the Clintons had no trouble raining bombs down on innocent people when it suited them, so they killed less, how does that balance in your moral scales? Turning your hate on George and Dick is just signing right up with the chump brigade. Pogo was right… The enemy IS US!
