The Curse Of Skinny Feet…

OK, I’ve decided. In my next life as a human I want fat, wide feet so I can buy cheap shoes at discount stores, like the rest of you do.

Why, you ask? Daddy wore a 10 A, sometimes AA. Mom wore an 8 AAAA with a AAAAAA heel, when she could find them. My brother wears a 10 A. I actually got the fat foot in the family, a 9-1/2 B. Have you ever tried to find A or B widths? When you can find them, or find a store that will special order them for you, do you have any idea what those narrow sumbitches cost? Gimme some $30 shoes that fit nicely, feel good, and look decent…

Well…… if your shoes don’t fit your feet how about making your feet fit your shoes?

Try stuffing newspaper in your shoes or better yet, wrap your feet in duct tape. Either way is better than spending all that extra money for special shoes. (Guess that’s the engineer coming out in me. Sorry.)

Having the same kind of family feet, I’ve learned you can have $30 shoes OR shoes that fit nicely and feel good OR shoes that look decent.

.. Adidas has some great (and very narrow) sneakers out on the market now…… and as for dressing up a bit, try to find yourself a retailer who carries H.S. Trask brand saddle shoes….. they are marvelous….

My problem is the opposite. I have what I used to fondly refer to as peasant feet instead of aristocratic. They are wide but not particularly long given my height of 5′7″ but the width means that often I have to buy shoes that are longer than I am to get them comfortable across the middle of the foot (not to mention the feet are a full half a size different which means one foot is fitted right and the other not– which for years didn’t matter). Then my peasant feet betrayed me with an arch that fell– just one to keep things complicated. That lead to plantar fascitiis in one foot which led to.. never mind… suffice it to say shoes are a complication for many of us. I wear a lot of tennis shoes, cowboy boots and sandals depending on the season as ‘real’ shoes are just not worth the hassle to find fitting right.

I never knew my wide flat fee were an advantage. You’ve made my day.

Well, the “flat” of course means I need arch supports, and the kind which work for me ain’t cheap.

For every problem, there is an opposite. My feet are so wide that I have to buy men’s shoes to get anything wide enough that isn’t three sizes too long. I don’t suppose that there is some easy solution for you?

You should try getting shoes when you have one foot with six toes on it.
