We would accomplish many more things if we did not think of them as impossible. — Vince Lombardi

This somehow seems appropriate this morning. Belief in one’s self underlies all accomplishments. Those who think they cannot fail, likely will. Those who believe they can win, often do.

I tend not to think of athletic coaches as great philosophers. St. Lombardi uttered a few worthwhile catch phrases, I suppose, but I doubt they were original with him.

I do think aiming high and proceeding with confidence are good. Most defeats are self-inflicted.

That is a good quote. My son has the poster of Muhammad Ali on his wall with the phrase “Impossible is Nothing”

I almost forgot the most quoted and yet most senseless Lombardi quote: “Winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing.”

I have no idea what that means.
