A lie is only a lie if the person knows it to be untrue at the time he says it.

I say a liar is still a liar if he deliberately avoids knowing a contrary truth when he utters the lie and/or goes out of his way to avoid knowing the truth so he can tell his lie. A liar is still a liar if he deliberately tells a partial truth to imply the presence of a larger “truth” which is, in fact, not true.
When the truth is in play, and not at the heart of things, the world suffers.
“A lie is a knife in the heart of the world.”
