Sugar Coated Death…

There are two things that I am as sure of as death and taxes: (1) George W. Bush is a liar, and (2) Keith Olbermann tells the truth. Here is an extract of Olbermann’s comments on MSNBC’s Countdown as he ripped President Bush, his lies and cruel treatment of our soldiers, by fact-checking Bush’s April 10 speech about Iraq.

Last year he escalated the war in Iraq, today he announced that there would be deescalation beyond July, yet somehow stood there with a straight face and lied about how he was withdrawing troops. Now, that was hardly the lone instance of dissembling, tortured logic, sophistry and outright dishonesty in Mr. Bush’s latest sugar-coating of the undeniable and unforgivable fact that he is continuing to arrange for the needless deaths of American heroes.

As reported by Crooks & Liars: President Bush has decided to put a hold on troop withdrawals, but tries to give the appearance that he’s actually reducing troop levels. He also reduced tours of duty for our soldiers from 15 months to 12, but with a cruel caveat — it doesn’t apply to any troops currently in Iraq or those deploying before August. Olbermann rips Bush for saying troop morale would plummet if we were to lose in Iraq by not fulfilling HIS goals, pointing out that some 120 soldiers committed suicide last year alone, and for them, the war is already over.

It seems that Bush is not only a liar, but also stupid enough to think that the American people are still buying it. Only a small minority of his faithful drones remain, the ones who not only believe Bush is somehow a blood relative of Jesus Christ, but who also believe any limp puppet (like the unfortunate sacrificial lamb, Gen. Petraeus) that Bush runs out to read a manuscript of lies prepared by the Whitehouse. One of the saddest parts of this ongoing tragedy is that Bush actually believes “Mission Accomplished“.

George W. Bush is not a liar. He has never lied. He is one of the most honorable leaders our country has ever had. History will prove that.

If Americans have seen through the Bush lies, then why do polls indicate Mr. McCain, who promises more of the same, only more so, and apparently until the end of time, is neck and neck for the Presidency with the Democrats (either of them).

Was it Mencken who that said: “No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people?”

You nailed it all, Winston, but it appears it does work. People do not see through it. Hillary calls Obama an elitist, claims she loves guns and goes to church, hates NAFTA, and she now has a 20 point lead in Pennsylvania. Who has lived in a mansion for umpteen years with no connection to the streets? Obama just paid off his student loans recently and Hillary has how many millions that Bill has made from who knows where? But he’s the elitist and the people evidently buy it. We appear to be getting the government we deserve and that’s frightening for the future. I have always blamed the voters for Bush getting away with what he has done. Sure not all of us, but too many who don’t mind torture and somehow think it works out like tv shows. People who like gladiator wars for the vicarious macho-ness they feel it adds to their lives, I guess. People who don’t question not actually paying for things but putting it all on a tab for their grandkids. I don’t understand it at all. It doesn’t seem like what I grew up thinking this country stood for :( And Olbermann does nail it time after time. How many listen though?

You are able to go to sleep in a safe country, a safe state, and a safe city tonight because of George W. Bush.

    Be thankful. I sure am.

I liked Olberman when he did sports, but now his self-important pompous windbag BS just makes me want to puke. Bush has made plenty of mistakes during the prosecution of the war, but McCains lead in the polls and the recent elections in Italy, France and Canada show that most of world prefers a strong America and fighting the Islamists than rolling over and taking it in the ass like Obama and Hillary say they would do.

Is anyone dumb enough to believe that Dubaya is related to JC? after all he wasn’t married or at least that is the party line.

“You are able to go to sleep in a safe country, a safe state, and a safe city tonight because of George W. Bush.”
Ummm, not sure to how to answer your fishing expedition other than to point out that I, for one, do NOT live in a safe country, nor a safe state, nor a safe city.
Since the local politicos have learned to emulate Dubya, they seem to have further distanced themselves from truth. Such is life in frightened America.

  12. Winston April 27th, 2008 1:40 pm

@Catmoves: How right you are! America is the most frightening and unsafe it has been in a couple of centuries. And ALL of that is due to Bush and the Great Trouncing of the Constitution, not to mention the bankrupting of the country. He laughs it off. Nobody stops him. Everyone seems now to be sitting around waiting for the next Pres to do it. If that is McCain, it’s just 4 more years of the same…or worse, if that is possible. Even if it is a Democrat, it will take many years to recover, if that is even possible. We have some very tough years ahead…

There is still the distinct possibility that I predicted in these annals a couple of years back: Bush will pull the attack on Iran in late summer or early fall, then once again abuse Presidential powers by waiving off the election and declaring himself Permanent President of the Kingdom of United States. I hope I am very very wrong. I fear I am not too far wrong.
