The Center for Artificial Indifference

Random Observations No. 15…

  • Lime Seeds: Did you ever notice that limes have no seeds?
  • Flop Flip: Isn’t it interesting that vulnerable Republicans suddenly start to notice the merit of Democratic legislation six months before Election Day?
  • Grilling: I love grilled food. I love the process of grilling. I hate the preparation and the cleanup of grilling… especially the cleanup…
  • Grills: There is no better gas grill affordable by ordinary folks than Weber… hands down… the absolute best… This is starting the 11th season for my Weber Genesis 1000, and while doing a little routine cleanup and maintenance, I decided it looked good to go for at least another 3 to 5 years. Let’s hope so since the sonofabitch cost me almost $600. But if it goes another 4 years, that puts the annual cost of a grill at under $40. Not too shabby…

We only grill when MathMan is involved. I would never go to the trouble to clean the thing and light the fire. I’d just pull out some pots and pans and fire up the electric on the stove top.

And really? Limes don’t have seeds? I never noticed!

Thanks for the consumer report recommendation…our Sunbeam is trying for its 14th summer, but I think it won’t make it, so I am looking for a replacement. I have a side burner for frying fish, but rarely use it. Grilling is what it’s all about. Oddly enough, the propane gas tanks haven’t risen in price yet!

    Speaking of Flop and Flip:

Ever notice that every single pair of flip-flops available anywhere are made in China? From the cheapest Wal Mart rubber flip-flops to the more expensive Tevas. They don’t make it easy to boycot the damned Olympics.

And grilling: I have no idea what kind of grill we have but it’s old and works great. I love red peppers, summer squash and sweet potatoes on the grill. I love summer…aaaaaaaaaah

    … wait… you CLEAN your grill?….. that’s just crazy….

@Eric: Oh, hell no… A point blank shot from my 22 Magnum using birdshot once a year knocks all the big pieces off and kills most of the crawly things you can see with your nekkid eye. Then the preheat of about 700 deg. for 15 minutes pretty well takes care of everything else.

The cleanup part was all the crap I have dragged out of the house and tend to leave laying around out on the patio. Seasonings, dishes, chips, salsa, beer bottles, wine glasses, wrappers, utensils of various kinds, incense offerings to the gods of the grill for another perfect… well, acceptable… performance…
