The Center for Artificial Indifference

W W J D?

Throughout my adult life, Carlin was my guiding light, my conscience, my benchmark. He had that laid back I don’t give a damn what you think I’m saying it anyway and if you don’t like it you can just fuck off attitude that drew me in like flies to horseshit.  Looking around for someone alive to pray to ( I mean there’s not much point praying to somebody who is dead because what can they do for you? )  I consider Joe Pesci. George prayed to Joe Pesci and said it worked out OK about half the time, roughly the same results Christians get by praying to God. Not being a personal friend or a big fan of Joe, I continue my search. As of last night, I’ve settled on Jimmy Buffett. He  has that same laid back I don’t give a damn what you think I’m saying it anyway and if you don’t like it you can just fuck off attitude. Jimmy is also a spiffy dresser, is the personification of fun, always has a lot of babes hanging around, all of which are artfully shown in the following hymn from one of his parties services. And, WWJD? has a familiar ring to it. Yeah, for now, he da man…

Winston, Jimmy is one of my very favorites, and I’ve got the CDs and books to prove it. You’ve gotta love a guy who will risk life and limb (okay, unknowingly, but still…) for some jerk chicken. Great choice for your prayers, you Parrothead.

I don’t know jimmy Buffet either! I am very ignorant …

Winston, you win the internet today!!! This has got to be one of my favorite posts ever. :)

    Beats Jesse Jackson!

Thanks for brightening my dreary day today. This post was most excellent.

Winston, I think your blog page clock is off by 2 hours. Not important, but you know me…. I’m somewhat OCD about things like that.

@ Elsie, Ginger, Ingineer: Thanks for the kind comments.

@Ginger: Now that I’ve won it, what the heck do I do with it? Can’t wear it or eat it or drink it. Thanks anyway, but I’ll pass…

@Liz: Jimmy Buffett is a truly unique American icon, an entertainer who throws huge parties for a few thousand of his closest friends, and has had a few hit songs that have become staples of our diet: Margaritaville (heard here) and Five O’Clock Somewhere to name two. You’ve got Tom Jones. We’ve got Jimmy.

@ twomartini: You’re way off in left field again - What the hell does Jesse Jackson have to do with anything in this post? As for the clock, don’t worry about it. The Dreamhost server I’m on is on the Left Coast. Google Time Zones and read all about how there are 4 time zones across the US. And as Chicago sang, Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is? Does Anybody Really Care?

How weird, the observation about the blog page clock…as if time was the same everywhere.

  9. twomartini June 27th, 2008 9:10 am

Time is the same everywhere… This moment is this moment all around the world.

In any event, Winston and I are one time zone apart, not two.

“What the hell does Jesse Jackson have to do with anything in this post?”

His name starts with “J” doesn’t it?

  11. Ingineer June 27th, 2008 3:28 pm

OK Winston I really do not care about the time or what your clock says, but I am kind of OCD about geography and The United States in general and there are 6 times zones across the United States.
If you go to http://www.time.gov/ you will find out.

I was going to tell Winston that but I was afraid he would get mad at me again.

  13. twomartini June 27th, 2008 5:00 pm

WWJJD?….. What would Jesse Jackson do?

    Hmmmmmmm…….

  14. twomartini June 27th, 2008 5:39 pm

Winston says I am way out in left field. Actually I am in right field.

I expect he will close me down for being a conservative. but I really believe in the Constitution and what our country stands for and always has.

That’s just the way I am. That’s me.

I really wasn’t trying to sound as negative as it came out. I was kind of crabby the last couple of days.

Isn’t Jimmy Buffett a druggy and an alcoholic? Is that what we want our children to emulate? I that what we want our country to emulate?

    Just wondering…
