Who? Why?
Edited August 27, 2005
A dear friend once said “Life’s a bitch, and then you die.” The older I get, the more I realize how much truth that humorous remark holds. Like almost everyone else on the planet, I’ve always felt I had a book in me, AND the innate ability to write it. Alas, I didn’t, and probably won’t - not enough time, not enough money, and too distracted with getting from one end of this bitchin’ life to the other.
Desperately needing a creative outlet, and realizing that nobody cares, a dumping ground for my collective thoughts, fears, desires, complaints, delights, rants, and musings seemed to be in order. A cathartic cerebral disgorgement.
That’s what this bandwidth wastage station and time sink site is about. Perhaps it will bring some focus to who I am, what I have become, and what I might be IF I choose to grow up. If you want to read and share, welcome. If you want to comment and/or email through the links provided, that’s fine - I will read them. Originally I said that “I really don’t care. I do this for me.” The passage of time, the development of nobodyasked, and the email discussions with a fellow blogger who has become an online soulmate, have all converged to make me realize I really do care and I invite your comments. Yes, I still do this for me, but it is the feedback, your comments and critiques, that fuel the fires to keep me striving to be better at what I do here. Nevertheless…
Nobody asked…BUT…I’m gonna say it anyway!
I live in the Nashville TN area with two blondes: one is the cuddliest cocker spaniel you’ll ever meet; the other, the love-of-my-life, and a REAL writer, claims most days to be my spouse; for purposes of this present body of work, I’ll refer to the former as “Dog” and the latter as “Roomie”.
Got a couple of college degrees (BSEE + MBA), both of which are probably obsolete and meaningless by now. [Note: That is BSEE as in Electrical Engineering, not elementary education as one person suggested. I am not nearly bright enough to be a teacher of little kids - big kids either, for that matter! And yes, the BS is for bullshit.] Seems like 24/7 I work my butt off as a network support dude, and when possible, enjoy good cheap wine, good music, readin’ and ritin’ and am totally committed to Tennessee football, both the Titans and my beloved UT Vols, even though both of their performances this season just absolutely sucked.
A review of my first few months of effort surprised me somewhat in that it had considerably more political content than originally planned. Must be a sign of the times. I have never been as agitated by or scared of our national leadership (yes, I used the term VERY loosely!) as I am now, and this has been a good outlet for some of those feelings, emotions, and opinions. Even more surprising is how many like-minded folks there are out there. It is my sincere hope and objective that you will find a pleasing balance of serious and humorous material covering a wide range of topics, from politics and war to observations in a local pub, from religious roots to rooting for the Tennessee Titans, and seasoned with a rich sprinkling of one-liner commentaries from some the great minds of our past, present, and future.
I hope you enjoy your visit here and will come back often to sit a spell, read my ‘ritin, and talk to me.

[...] Though several of you interpreted my questioning as thinking of quitting, that was never really a part of my agenda. Like all who blog, I have on occasion wondered if it is worth the time and effort. But I quickly get over that when I remind myself that first of all, I do this for me. As stated on my about page (I called it “Who? Why?” just to be a bit different), I started blogging out of a need for “a creative outlet … a dumping ground for my collective thoughts, fears, desires, complaints, delights, rants, and musings … A cathartic cerebral disgorgement.” For me it has been all that … and much more.
