Just Wondering…

Aside from a small handful of regular and loyal readers/commenters (you know who you are and I sincerely thank you!), does anyone read this blog? Does anyone care? If it had disappeared yesterday, would anyone notice today?

Like I said, just wondering…

I’m one of those people who reads and remembers far more than I’m able to comment or link back or anything like that these days. But I read every post. There’s my two cents worth. Don’t stop.

As in Horton Hears a Who… “We are here, we are here, we are here!”

Information overabundance sometimes leaves me only able to read but not comment.

Honestly Winston, I have thought the very same thing on occasion. My daughter, who has been blogging about a year longer than me and who gets a LOT of traffic, tells me not to worry whether I get a lot of comments or not. Some people just aren’t commenters…like Ken in the comment above. Not everyone is comfortable leaving remarks, or don’t know what to say. I have noticed definite swings in the amount of comments I get…for any number of reasons. Be assured that more people are reading your posts than you think.

I’m here, too. I’m reading - most times from an aggregator. You have two bits from me now to add to Ken’s … almost a cup of coffee! Here’s my cartoon quote: “Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming.” -mg

This is the curse of the blogger. I know what you mean. Felt it too. But then I think that I like writing for *me* anyway, and doing it online has a different feel to it somehow.

mm well you could always try drastic measures and tell everyone you’re going to stop blogging - that usually gets people out of the woodwork fast enough lol!

It’s thanks to your posting on my Frappr map that I learned of your existence; every time my Blogroll indicates you’ve updated, I click over and visit (and occasionally comment, as you know).
Your brief comment on my “Thank you” post nudged me in the direction of writing a post on the question you raise here; and now, seeing your post just may serve as the tipping point.
    Long may you blog.

Count me in, Winston! I, too, have moments of wondering why no one (except for a loyal handful - thanks!) is reading/commenting.

I think folks blog for different reasons. I blog to get the stuff rattling around in my head out there through a medium different from a handwritten journal (I’m a terrible journaler) - get it out there so that I can move on to thinking about something more important (or even more trivial, then blogging about that, and moving on, etc.). It’s a different form of writing than journaling by hand or via Word.

So if no one stops by, I do wonder about it, but amassing a huge - or even minor - following isn’t the reason I do either Shorty PJs or The Wildgoose Chase. It’s a way to organize my ideas and thoughts and empty my crowded head!

I read a number of other blogs faithfully - yours included - and don’t always comment. But I’m here, sir - I’m here!

Don’t stop blogging. I drop in often and have always enjoyed your site. In fact I like it so much that it is on my Blog Roll. I write because I want to express myself. I started my blog to keep in touch with my adult children. I found out they could care less about my thoughts and ideas. However, I found a whole group of people like myself who like to write.
I think we all go through stages where we wonder if blogging is worthwhile. It is and I would miss yours a lot.

Sheesh, some people will do anything to get attention.

Whazzamatta, Winston? Roomie kick you out to the doghouse again?

    :D

    Ah, of course.

Ya know, I’ve been doing this for two years now and it still tends to shock me when there are comments to something I’ve written down. I frankly don’t care if anyone reads the gibberish or not, although it is very lovely that they do.

So, repeating. Ah, of course. You would be missed.

I won’t tell you how often I check my stats counter, lol, but even though blogs are basically for the blog owner, it’s a kick to have ppl read them once in a while!

    I’m a regular visitor here.
    :)

    I would be very sad…

I pop around here every two days or so and read regularly. And going by the replies to this thread, so do a few others. I’d be disappointed if you stopped.

I get a bit despondent about my comments sometimes (especially with posts I’ve spent a bit of time on), then I’ll write a throwaway post that gets a heap of comments. Seems to be a pattern of mine.

  17. Rain January 28th, 2006 11:34 pm

i read your blog… obviously not daily this week, or i’d have seen this post sooner but at least every couple of days and enjoy your insights :)

  18. Tamar January 29th, 2006 6:46 am

Yeah, I’m a reader of your blog, Winston. I have been away from blogging emotionally this past week because of work load but mostly I read you daily. I enjoy the jokes, love the quotes you sometimes have and especially like the way you write.

I might not have noticed if it disappeared yesterday but today I certainly would have!

Sheesh … I certainly understand the question you pose here though. I have had those same thoughts a million times.

  19. jmb January 31st, 2006 8:51 am

I’ve never been here before. I came to visit because Blog Meridian wrote about your question. Heck….I’ll be back, even bookmarked your site. Keep it up!

Not come by enough lately, trouble in the family dynamic. Yes I would miss you, a lot. I do come by and read, and enjoy, however I guess I need to take the time out to respond as well
